Summary:

The Corporate Controller manages, prepares, administers, and directs the financial closings in a public company atmosphere. Manages the daily activities of the accounting team, and is responsible for accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting.

 

Duties:

Responsibilities:

The Corporate Controller is responsible for financial management and supervision of accounting department of 25+ personnel. S/he is a key contributor to external SEC reporting on a quarterly and year-end basis. This role will work closely with the VP of Finance and the VP of Tax to comply with GAAP, tax requirements, SEC, and management reporting requirements. The Corporate Controller will lead the month-end close process and consolidation of financial information for reporting purposes. The ideal candidate can develop and administer accounting policies, and has supervisory responsibility for general accounting, internal auditing, and budgetary controls. Experience in interpreting operating results and making specific recommendations which will result in cost reductions and profit improvements is critical. The incumbent will have experience in analyzing financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets and expenditures.

Additional basic Accounting Duties as follows:

  • Reviews income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports.

  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.

  • Plans, directs, supervises, reviews and sets goals and objectives for the accounting staff.

  • Reviews payments to vendors to ensure accurate accounting and maximum utilization of cash flow.

  • Coordinate and liaise with external auditors for the annual audit.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Experience required leading the SEC, 10K, 10Q filings.

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 606, ASC 740, and ASC 718.

  • Solid leadership skills, with team building abilities.

  • Hands-on management style with demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Analytical abilities to research, extract, and summarize complex or diverse information.

  • Ability to draft accounting position papers and interpreting and applying accounting guidance.

  • Problem solving abilities to identify and creatively resolve problems in a timely manner.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a group or public forum.

  • Solid business acumen to understand business implications of decisions and align work with strategic goals.

  • Ability to respond to management direction, and complete tasks on time.

  • Adaptable to change in a dynamic work environment

  • Quality minded, with demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness in ways to improve and promote quality.                                       

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Good planning and organizational skills.

  • Able to effectively monitor and develop subordinates.

  • Familiarity with IRS, state, sales tax regulations.

  • Personable leader and firm decision-maker

  • Consolidations experience desirable

  • Some travel required

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Corporate Controllership in a public company setting
  • CPA Required
  • MBA/Master’s Level Degree Strongly Preferred
  • Big 4 Manager & Audit Experience Preferred
  • Microsoft Office (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint)
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
  • Systems proficiency including Accounting Software (Great Plains-Dynamics) and ERP System implementation experience a plus.
