This position is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Iridium NAS environments and systems at all corporate facilities working in cooperation with the IT Systems and Database Administrators to provide highly available and reliable storage systems to support data storage across all systems. This position will also be responsible for the administration and maintenance of all Backup systems and processes, including tape, disk, software and off-site storage.

  • Administer, Maintain, Tune and troubleshoot the NAS systems providing NFS and CIFS storage

  • Upgrade/install hardware and software to support disk storage, NAS operations and backup/recovery of data and systems.

  • Administer backup/recovery systems and software, service user requests, evaluate tools and applications

  • Plan and design storage architecture to support data growth

  • Monitor systems daily, respond to alerts, and provide 24/7 on-call support

  • Experienced in NAS technologies, using management software and writing custom scripts to automate tasks

  • Perform regular recovery tests; assist system administrators as needed

  • Skilled in performance tuning strategies as well as disaster recovery strategies.

  • Provide regular metrics and reporting as directed

  • Other duties as assigned by management

  • Be responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for all Network Attached Storage systems and services across the Iridium Network

  • Be responsible for investigating potential problems and issues raised by system administrators and business users; this includes being on-call and carrying a cell phone as required

  • Monitor system events to proactively optimize performance

  • Work with the team to automate procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues

  • Work with other teams to promote changes to production and other environments

  • Plan and design storage architectures for new and existing systems

  • Be accountable for maintaining disk configurations in compliance with established best practices and established baseline configurations

  • Serve as SME for proper backup and disaster recovery procedures

  • Work in conjunction with other IT groups and company departments to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the storage and backup perspective

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management

  • Suggest improvements and seek additional training to maintain skills necessary to execute duties

    Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/MIS or similar

  • 3+ years’ experience with Netapp NAS Administration in a Clustered Environment (C-Mode)

  • 5+ years’ experience with Netbackup Enterprise software pushing data to a TLU

  • Familiar with Redhat Linux, Sun/Oracle and Microsoft Operating Systems;

  • Knowledge of Security Best Practices, System Performance Tuning, Disaster Recovery Planning

  • Relevant Technical Certifications

  • Project Management Skills

  • Experience in a 24/7 Operational Mission Critical environment a plus
