| Description: | Responsibilities: The Director Product Manager (DPM) is responsible for the tactical and strategic management of all Iridium services and products. The DPM will manage an organization of 4-5 product managers who will be responsible for cradle to grave management of products and services. The product management organization is responsible for coordinating across the entire company, the delivery of valuable capabilities to our customers and managing the product/service from a profit and loss perspective. Specific responsibilities of the organization include: - Coordinating, developing, documenting and communicating the product strategy for the responsible product/service line including development of the product road map
- Perform and evaluate market, competitive, technical, and operational analysis and assimilate insights into the product strategy and product plan
- Collect, analyze and document customer and market requirements into market requirement and product requirement documents for the engineering and operations teams to design, develop and implement products and solutions
- Synthesize market inputs into a prioritized approach to product upgrades, extensions and next generation planning
- Execute business case development, market demand description, product definition, features and functionality
- Project planning and management
- Development and maintenance of product plans for hardware and services including pricing/rate plans, competitive analysis, sales strategy, market share attainment
- Proactively work across all relative functions to ensure products and services fit into relative company functionality (software systems, billing systems, etc.), processes, and procedures.
- Create technical, user, and marketing documentation for internal and external use for all voice services and products as required
- Provide support to sales teams via technical presentations, sales training material, white papers, lab demonstrations, and other customer engagements
- Training of Iridium distribution and development partners on functional operation of Iridium voice services and products
- Serve as primary repository for new products, services, feature enhancement requests and defects. Support key relationships with prospects, customers, and internal stakeholders as they assist with the development of requirements and product definition throughout the product lifecycle. Filter and prioritize market requirements while documenting detailed business and user requirements.
- Develop in depth knowledge and expertise of all Iridium products and services
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Director Specific Responsibilities: - Hire and manage a team of 4-5 product managers
- Build a strong PM capability in Iridium that maintains a customer focus and strong grounding in the revenue, profit and loss impact of products and product decisions
- Leadership role that works closely with other functional areas to create a PM mentality across the entire organization
- Function as part of the management team representing the critical role of products and services to the success of Iridium
- Strong interaction with executive management to ensure that products and services are successfully implemented to our customers
- Function as a senior member of the marketing team, creating a strong working relationship with marketing strategy and analysis and the corporate communications functions
- Develop results oriented management plans and budgets to achieve corporate, functional and personal PM objectives
Requirements: - BS Degree in technical discipline, MBA preferred
- Minimum 10 years experience, minimum 5 years in product management
- Strong management skills with ability to grow to an executive level position
- Experience in wireless or satellite voice products and services preferred
- Demonstrated ability to proactively build and manage relationships through effective interpersonal and relationship skills
- Strong communicator (Oral, Verbal, and Written) with ability to persuade individuals and groups
- Strong project management skills
- International travel experience is preferred
- Proficiency in English is required and one or more languages is preferred e.g. Spanish
- General computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft productivity software. Ability to come up to speed quickly with company systems, proprietary systems and emerging technology.
- Ability to multi-task, results driven, strong sense of ownership; strong sense of urgency; ability to improvise and solve complex problems and manage with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including developing and executing plans and budgets to achieve corporate, functional and personal objectives
