Position Overview:

The Field Applications Engineer will be the primary technical contact point for assigned Value Added Resellers, Value Added Manufacturers and Value Added Developers (VARs, VAMs, & VADs or collectively "Customers").The sales engineer will be involved with both pre-sales and post sales support functions with Customers.  Reports to the Director, Data Services.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Training new Customers in the use and operation of the Iridium system.
  2. Working with Customers to design, build and optimize their applications for use on the network.
  3. Coordinating technical issues and program managing those issues until resolution with Iridium engineering, marketing, operations and customer support functions relating to trouble shooting and operational support.
  4. Being the technical advocate for Customers within Iridium.
  5. Identifying and documenting the functional requirements of Customers solutions as related to Iridium products and services.
  6. Communicating to the Customers how Iridium can meet their needs and requirements.
  7. Supporting the business development and marketing teams on prospective customer identification, qualification and selection.
  8. Creating, managing and maintaining documentation, business processes, training materials and classes relating to hardware and services for Iridium based voice and data applications.
  9. Other tasks as assigned.

Expertise Required:

  1. Demonstrated technical ability to develop an in-depth understanding of the end-to-end Iridium network and back office support systems capabilities.
  2. The ability to collaboratively architect the successful implementation of wireless voice and data solutions on the Iridium network directly with Customers.
  3. Demonstrated program management ability to document tasks, assign responsibilities and follow through task items to completion on schedule and in budget.
  4. A good mix of technical and sales oriented skills. Must be technically focused, but able to play a supporting sales role as required.
  5. Ability to interact successfully with C-level executives.
  6. Self starter, results focused, highly motivated, requiring little direct supervision and with a sense of urgency.
  7. The ability to work as part of a coordinated sales and support team for specified customer accounts.
  8. Excellent communications skills in formal presentations, writing and verbal formats.
  9. Ability to perform significant domestic and international travel (possibly up to 50%+ at times) to customer locations.

Qualifications:

Minimum BS in Electrical, Electronic or Communications Engineering (or appropriate technical degree)

Experience Required:

  1. Minimum 10 years in satellite data communications or terrestrial wireless data systems or related communications technology.
  2. Minimum 5 years in a customer facing engineering support role.
  3. Minimum 5 years with microprocessor based systems, embedded systems, GPS, embedded software, antennas, cellular RF or satellite transceivers, RS232, TCP/IP and data acquisition sensor technology.
